Cambodia Attends AWGESC Meeting

Focal persons of ASEAN working group of Cambodia's Ministry of Environment have attended the 19th Meeting of the ASEAN Working Group on Environmentally Sustainable Cities (AWGESC) and the Meeting of Selection Panel of the 5th ESC Award and 4th Certificates of Recognition.

The meeting took place recently through a Videoconference under the coordination of ASEAN working group of Malaysia's Ministry of Environment and Water.

Other ASEAN working group focal officials from Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and representatives of applied cities authorities also participated in the virtual meeting.

On the occasion, ASEAN Secretariat updated the group's achievements, especially the progress of collaboration with development partners like IGES, GIZ, CAEC, AFD and South Korea on smart cities toward environmental sustainability.

On the Meeting of Selection Panel of the 5th ESC Award and 4th Certificates of Recognition, it unveiled that Cambodia's Phnom Penh, Kep and Sen Monorom have been recognised for Clean Water, Clean Air and Clean Land cities, respectively.

Indonesia was granted 2 recognitions for Clean Land and Clean Air, while Malaysia got 2 for Clean Water and Clean Air; the Philippines, 1 for Clean Land; Thailand, 3 for Clean Water, Clean Air and Clean Land; Laos, 1 for Clean Air; and Vietnam, 1 for Clean Land.

The award conferment ceremony will be held in the 16th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment in Indonesia this year.

For the ESC Award 2021, Cambodia has nominated Sihanoukville city of Preah Sihanouk province.
