Cambodia and India will jointly host the 11th Mekong-Ganga Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (11th MGC FMM) this week, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation's press release made public this morning.
The 11th MGC FMM will be held on July 21, 2021 via Videoconference under the co-chairmanship of H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India.
Other Foreign Ministers from the Mekong countries namely Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam will also attend the meeting.
The MGC Foreign Ministers will review the progress of the cooperation since the 10th MGC Ministerial Meeting in Bangkok on Aug. 1, 2019 and chart out its future direction, aiming at further strengthening and expanding the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministers are also expected to exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest and concern.
The virtual 11th MGC FMM represents another achievement under the MGC in the past 21 years in realising economic growth and social development in the Mekong sub-region and India, while enhancing cooperation between India and the Mekong countries through cultural and people-to-people ties. To mark the cooperation’s 20th anniversary, there will be a launching of a brand new MGC website and the presentation of a video documentary showcasing the achievements of the cooperation and the diverse cultures and societies of the member countries.
