Cambodia, Lao PDR Exchange Congratulations on 65th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations

Cambodian and Lao top leaders have exchanged their congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of the 65th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR).

They noted that the long-lasting traditional relations and bonds of friendship between Cambodia and Laos have been cherished and nurtured by the new generation of leaders and people of the two countries based on the spirit of mutual trust, good neighbourliness and fraternal solidarity. With the strong commitments and efforts of the two governments, the fruitful cooperation of the two countries in various areas including political-security, economy and socio-cultural fields have been strengthened and elevated to a new height.

“I have no doubt that the celebration of this important milestone will surely further consolidate the existing good relations and comprehensive and long-lasting strategic partnership between our two countries in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks for the mutual benefits of our two peoples as well as peace and development in the region and beyond,” wrote His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia in his recent congratulatory message to H.E. Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith, President of Lao PDR.

In reply, H.E. Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith said that the relationship between the two nations, whether during the period of revolution or nations building is always characterised by the bond of fraternal friendship deep-rooted in history of the two peoples. “The Lao people always and will attach great importance to and together with the Cambodian people to cherish our traditional friendship and cooperation,” he added.

For his part, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, reaffirmed his firm commitment to continue working closely with his Lao counterpart to further deepen the two countries’ comprehensive and long-lasting strategic partnership so as to promote their national development, address current regional and global challenges, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic, and jointly enhance peace, stability, prosperity and sustainable development for the two peoples, as well as the ASEAN Community and beyond.

H.E. Dr. Phankham Viphavanh, Prime Minister of the Lao PDR, expressed his firm belief that with their close cooperation, the existing traditional bonds of friendly relations between both nations will be further advanced so “we can bring about mutual benefits to our nations as well as continued peace, stability and cooperation for development in the region and the world at large.”

Moreover, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn and his Lao counterpart H.E. Saleumxay Kommasith also exchanged congratulatory messages on this solemn occasion. They reiterated their strong commitment to continue working closely with each other to further bolster the bilateral relations as well as to advance a comprehensive and long-lasting partnership between Cambodia and Lao PDR in the coming years, thus contributing to peace, stability and prosperity within the region and beyond.

Cambodia and Lao PDR established their diplomatic ties on June 15, 1956.
