The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has approved the draft Mondulkiri Tourism Development Master Plan 2021-2035, identifying Mondulkiri as an international ecotourism destination and an important province in supplying flowers, vegetables, fruits and meat to meet domestic demand and for exports.
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, said in the Master Plan’s preface that tourism sector in Mondulkiri province is in the growth process of life cycle of tourism development, which is full of potential for future development.
Under the master plan, he underlined, the development of tourism in the province will create opportunities for investment and added value in tourism and inter-sectors, which supports the economic development of Mondulkiri province and the national economy as a whole, as well as contributes to conserving and protecting natural resources, cultural heritage and the provincial original identity.
The RGC has agreed to identify six priority areas for development – ecotourism corridors and ecotourism of the five wildlife sanctuaries, Bousra-Dakdam cultural tourism and ecotourism corridor, Sen Monorom city, O’ Raing Ov district connected with the development of Mondulkiri airport, urban areas of Koh Nhek district, and integrated tourism areas at the border – and the scope of investment and development activities of those areas must be clearly stated, Samdech Techo Prime Minister added.
According to the 15-year tourism development master plan, Mondulkiri province will predictably receive US$500 million in revenue from about 3 million tourists per year.
Besides Mondulkiri Tourism Development Master Plan 2021-2035, there are also Kep Tourism Development Master Plan being drafted and Siem Reap Tourism Development Master Plan already approved.
