Preliminary Information: Thailand’s New Temple Under Construction Not Replica of Cambodia’s Angkor Wat

The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts has gathered some preliminary information on the alleged Angkor Wat-like temple being built in Buriram province of Thailand, following an investigation visit by officials from the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Thailand to the site, checking the architectural design of the Thai temple and talking with those in charge.

According to the ministry's press release dated July 7, the preliminary information showed that Thailand's stone temple under construction in Buriram province is not a replica of Cambodia's Angkor Wat Temple.

The design of the new Thai temple was grounded on different architectural styles from various temples in Thailand, it added.

The Thai side, as it underlined, was also open for further technical review from Cambodia to ascertain the temple's design.

The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts will follow closely the case, stressed the press release.

Cambodian public, especially through social media, had spurred criticism of the construction of the Thailand's stone temple in Buriram that it was the replica of Cambodia's Angkor Wat Temple.

The Royal Government of Cambodia through the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Thailand organised an immediate investigation with a good collaboration from the Thai side and got the mentioned preliminary information.
