400-MW Power Plants Construction Agreement Signed

As committed, Cambodia has signed the agreement to construct 400 megawatt generator houses in Kandal province to further ensure power supply security especially in Phnom Penh.

The signing ceremony took place on June 11 here in Phnom Penh in the presence of H.E. Keo Ratanak, Director General of Electricite Du Cambodge (EDC), and ambassadors of China, Finland and Germany.

According to agreement, the construction of the two generator houses running on diesel and costing about US$380 million will be built in Lvea Em district of the province.

One of generators will be powered by a 200 megawatt generator from Finland and its housing facilities will be built by China Gezhouba Group Corporation.

The second power house for 200 megawatt generator from Germany will constructed by China National Heavy Machinery Corporation.

Basing on the ministry's figures, Cambodia consumed 2,650 megawatts last year � about 15 percent higher than consumption in year before � and of the 2018 power consumption, 442 megawatts were imported from Thailand, Vietnam and Laos.
