7th River Festival Officially Kicked Off

This year's River Festival was officially opened this evening in Kampong Thom provincial city under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

The River Festival 2023, the 7th of its kind, has been taking place from Mar. 8 to 10 under the theme "Our River for Now and Next”.

Speaking on the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen spoke highly of the River Festival, stressing that the annual event has become an attracting tourism product contributing not only to promoting tourism potential of riparian provinces, but also to supporting the Royal Government's policy in developing riparian areas sustainably and accountably, especially to boosting local economic development and natural resource protection and preservation.

Arts performances, concerts and fireworks, Khmer and international food and beverage fair, tourism product exhibition, agri-tourism and local commercial products exhibition, and the presentation of the tourism development projects from each province along the river as well as sports activities are part of this year's programme.

River Festival is organised every year on a rotation basis by the riparian provinces, and the first round was organised in Kratie in 2015, followed by the second in Stung Treng, the third in Kampong Cham and Thbong Khmum, the fourth in Kandal, the fifth in Kampong Chhnang, and the sixth in Battambang.
