A total of 740,028 domestic tourists travelled throughout Cambodia in July 2020, an increase by 15.2 percent compared to June.
The figures were shared by Minister of Tourism H.E. Thong Khon on Aug. 5, adding that of the total number, 16,790 were foreign tourists, up 9.99 percent, and 723,238 were national tourists, up 15.35 percent.
The most visited destination is the coastal area covering four provinces: Kampot, Kep, Koh Kong and Preah Sihanouk, pointed out a monthly report of the Ministry of Tourism.
According to H.E. Thong Khon, the increase of domestic tourists shows more positive sign of the domestic tourism movement as more tourism businesses, especially hotels and other accommodation services have reopened, but the number of visitors appeared to decline in the last week of July due to heavy rain across most of the country, as well as news of some recurrences of the COVID-19 pandemic in neighbouring countries.
At various tourist destinations throughout the country, efforts are being made to promote the implementation of the instructions of the Ministry of Health and the safety measures of the Ministry of Tourism to prevent the spread of COVID-19 with permanent guidance and monitoring from the provincial administrations and specialised departments, underlined H.E. Minister.
