Another UNDP-Supported EV Charging Station Launched in Siem Reap Province

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport on Wednesday launched a new electric vehicle charging station, funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Siem Reap provincial city.

The launching ceremony was chaired by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport and Mr. Butchaiah Gadde, UNDP Representative in Cambodia.

Speaking at the event, H.E. Sun Chanthol thanked UNDP for assisting Cambodia with EV charging stations which will encourage the use of EVs in the country.

A total of 305 EVs were registered during the January-July period of this year, 1,806 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

“The rise of EV use reflects the understanding and support of the people for the use of electric vehicles in Cambodia,” H.E. Sun Chanthol said.

The UNDP has so far supported the establishment of three EVs charging stations in Phnom Penh capital, Sihanoukville, and Siem Reap city.

The ministry unveiled its plan to install another EV charging station in Battambang province with the help of UNDP to promote more electric vehicle use, he added.
