ASEAN Chair: Parliaments Play Crucial Role in Solving Regional and Global Issues

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Chair of ASEAN 2022, has laid stress on the importance role of parliaments in contribution to dealing with regional and global issues.

“In the current context in which the world is facing many complex challenges, I would like to emphasise that Parliaments, especially the National Assemblies, indeed have a crucial and an indispensable role in contributing to resolving regional and global issues,” he said in his keynote address at the opening ceremony of the 43rd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) held at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel this morning.

“In this spirit, I am of the view that the celebration of the 43rd AIPA General Assembly provides a rare opportunity for Samdech, Excellencies AIPA delegates to join the discussion on a wide range of topics with the common objective of strengthening our cooperation into a unity and identifying policy recommendations, especially a joint position for the interests of our peoples,” Samdech Techo Hun Sen added.

The opening ceremony of the 43rd AIPA General Assembly was also featured with a welcome royal message by His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, and welcome and opening remarks from Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, President of Cambodian Senate, and Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, Cambodian National Assembly President and Chair of the 43rd AIPA.

Themed “Advancing Together for Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient ASEAN”, the 43rd AIPA General Assembly is taking place from Nov. 20-25.
