ASEAN Discusses Transboundary Haze Pollution

The ASEAN Ministers of Environment gathered today to discuss transboundary haze pollution issue.

The discussion, chaired by H.E. Say Samal, Minister of Environment of Cambodia, took place at the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the ASEAN Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution (COP-15 AATHP), held in Siem Reap provincial city.

H.E. Say Samal extended warm welcome to all ASEAN Environment Ministers who attended the meeting and lauded the joint efforts in controlling haze pollution caused by forest encroachment and forest fire.

The meeting reviewed and discussed issues related to forest fire and haze pollution situation and the action plan of the ASEAN Member States, update on transboundary haze control agreement within national and regional frameworks, cooperation roadmap for transboundary haze control, creation of transboundary haze control centre, and so on.

The ASEAN Member States signed the Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution on June 10, 2002 and it entered into force on Nov. 25, 2003.
