Leaders and representatives of ASEAN member countries, including Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn, gathered in Bangkok, Thailand this morning in the 7th ASEAN-U.S. Summit with Special U.S. Envoy H.E. Robert O'Brien, National Security Adviser.
According to the National Television of Kampuchea (TVK)'s special report, both sides discussed in detail the planned agenda to deepen their cooperation.
They highly valued the progress of ASEAN-U.S. relations and emphasised the importance of fostering partnerships with dialogue partners, sectoral dialogue partners, development partners and other external stakeholders through frameworks and implementation of cooperation action plans.
The ASEAN leaders urged the U.S. to continue supporting the implementation of Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025 and the Work Plan III of ASEAN Integration Initiative focusing on connectivity to help minimising the development gap between ASEAN Member States and promote regional connectivity aimed at achieving the ASEAN Community Vision 2025.
The ASEAN leaders also spoke highly of the new technical assistance programme between ASEAN and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on the ASEAN inclusive economic growth through trade innovations and e-commerce for 2019-2023, which will continue to promote the ASEAN Community Building.
