Cambodia Appreciates Israel’s Contribution to Agricultural Development

Cambodia has appreciated Israel's contribution to Cambodia's agricultural development.

The appreciation was made by H.E. Veng Sakhon, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries during a meeting with H.E. Oded Forer, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Israel on Aug. 28.

H.E. Veng Sakhon shared with H.E. Oded Forer that since 2008 through the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Agriculture and Rural Development of Israel, 1,964 Cambodian agriculture students have been sent for internship programmes at companies and farms in Israel.

Israel also agreed to increase student quota for internships by 50 a year, to a total of 250 students a year.

Through the good cooperation between the two countries, horticultural sub sector is also developing remarkably, emphasised the minister.

He also asked the Government of Israel to establish a centre for agriculture technology training and administration in Cambodia.

H.E. Oded Forer spoke highly Cambodian agriculture development, and pledged to bring H.E. Veng Sakhon's request to discuss with his team.

Both sides also agreed to formulate a technical team to prepare a Memorandum of Understanding for sustainable, inclusive and resilient agricultural development cooperation.

H.E. Veng Sakhon left here for a five-day visit to Israel on Aug. 27 to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries on agricultural development and agribusiness.

During his stay in Israel, H.E. Veng Sakhon also met with H.E. Ms. Eynat Shlein, Head of Israel’s Official International Development Cooperation Programme (MASHAV) and attended the graduation ceremony of 200 Cambodian students at the end of their 11-month agricultural technical training in Israel.
