Cambodia Attends First Mekong-ROK Summit

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn, who represented Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, joined leaders of other Mekong nations and the Republic of Korea (ROK) in the 1st Mekong-ROK Summit, held in Busan, ROK on Nov. 27.

According to the National Television of Kampuchea (TVK)'s special report, during the summit, H.E. Moon Jae-in highlighted the important role of the Mekong countries in the region as well as in the peace issue on the Korean Peninsula. He also affirmed that South Korea will stay by the Mekong countries' side and believed that the development of Mekong region is that of Korea.

The ROK President did not forget to mention about Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen's commitmentfor the Mekong-ROK Summit to replace the biennial ministerial meeting.

H.E. Moon Jae-in continued that the Mekong countries have become a land of opportunity and South Korea is a special friend to the region in promoting regional cooperation and prosperity.

The total trade volume of the Republic of Korea and the Mekong region was recorded at US$84 billion in 2018, up more than double over the past eight years.
