Cambodia Chairs 28th ASCC Council Meeting

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the National Representative of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) is chairing the “28th ASCC Council Meeting” from Oct. 12 to 14 at the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel, Phnom Penh.

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, will deliver his opening remarks on Oct. 13.

Chaired by H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, and ASCC Council Chair, the Meeting is attended by the ASCC Ministers, the ASEAN Secretary-General, Ministers of ASCC Sectoral Bodies, SOCA Leaders, Senior Officials of ASCC Sectoral Bodies, ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General, ASCC Permanent Representative, accompanying delegates, and related officials.

The Meeting will be followed by two side events: the 2022 ASEAN Youth Debate and the inauguration of the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies at the Royal University Phnom Penh.

The Meeting will review the progress of priority areas achieved in 2022 at the 33rd Meeting of the Senior Officials Committee for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (SOCA) and the challenges to be addressed for the upcoming 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits.

As the ASCC Council Chair, H.E Dr. Hang Chuon Naron will inform the meeting about the main achievements, priorities, side events and documents to be approved, including the Declaration related to Sports, ASEAN Identity, Culture, Migrant Workers, Women’s Entrepreneurship, Women’s Empowerment, Peace and Security.

The Meeting will issue a Joint Statement on Climate Change and set 2022 as the Year of ASEAN Youth.
