H.E. Veng Sakhon, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, met here on Mar. 11 with H.E. Ms. Carmen Moreno, newly appointed EU Ambassador to Cambodia to discuss the strengthening and expansion of cooperation between the two sides in the agricultural field.
On the occasion, H.E. Minister thanked the EU for its good cooperation with Cambodia and its technical and financial support for many projects, in particular in the agricultural sector. He recalled the EU's financial assistance of more than 140 million Euros for the enhancement of the management, preservation and development of fishery resources in the Kingdom.
He also told H.E. Ms. Carmen Moreno of the ministry's reform programme, i.e. to change from agricultural production to ensure food security to production for local and international trading through agricultural modernisation, mechanisation and diversification, and green agriculture.
For her part, H.E. Ms. Carmen Moreno highly appreciated the progress in all areas obtained by Cambodia, as well as the fruitful results of the cooperation between the ministry and the EU.
In addition, she expressed her belief that the ministry would cooperate more closely with the EU in the preparation of programmes and projects to respond to the Royal Government's new strategies in agricultural modernisation.
During the first two months of this year, more than 41.3 thousand tonnes of milled rice and 34.5 tonnes of vegetables were exported to the EU.
