Cambodia’s banana export to China is expected to reach 500,000 tonnes in 2022.
The optimism was unveiled in a recent press conference organised here by the Cambodian Banana Association Alliance.
Mr. Chen Qisheng, Vice President of the Cambodia-China Chamber of Commerce and General Manager of China Inspection and Quarantine Cambodia Company, spoke highly of the banana association alliance for their hard work to promote Cambodia’s banana export.
The alliance currently has 37 members, including the fruit growers, suppliers, and the firms in charge of fertiliser, storage, logistics and transport.
Cambodia exported its first banana to China in May 2019 and it is the first Cambodian fruit to export to the market.
Figure from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries showed that Cambodia exported 218,000 tonnes of fresh bananas to China in the first half of 2022.
With the export momentum, the country is expected to export about 500,000 tonnes of the fruit to the Chinese market by the close of this year.
