Cambodia and Laos will sign power deal shortly � the move that allows Cambodia to import 2,400 megawatts from its neighbouring country to bridge the Kingdom's temporary utility gap.
The Council of the Ministers will discuss the deal tomorrow and it is expected to sign later this week during the visit of Lao Prime Minister H.E.Thongloun Sisolith to Cambodia.
H.E. Victor Jona, Director General of General Department of Energy, shared that Cambodia and Laos have planned to build high voltage (of 500 kilo-volt) transmission system � national grid from Lao border to Phnom Penh.
The power imported from Laos under the agreement will be generated from coal-fired power plant, he added.
The power deal was reached during bilateral meeting between Cambodian and Lao delegations in a side-line of ASEAN Energy Ministers held last week in Bangkok, Thailand.
As scheduled the power agreement will be inked in the presence of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his Lao counterpart on September 11.
