Cambodia was ranked the fifth organic rice exporter by the European Union last year, according to report from Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF).
The report shows that Cambodia exported 8,467 tons of organic rice to the EU in 2018, representing 3.9 percent in the market � entitled to the fifth rank in the market.
According to report, the EU imported 70 percent of the rice from the United States of America, followed by Pakistan and India with almost 10 percent and 9 percent respectively.
Thailand was ranked the fourth accounting 4.9 percent with 10,522 tons of organic rice exported to the EU market.
Last year, Cambodia exported 626,225 tons of rice in general to international markets, a drop of 1.5 percent compared to 2017.
Common types of rice exported are fragrant rice (493,597 tons shipped or 78.82 percent of total rice exports), long-grain white rice (105,990 tons or 16.93 percent), and long-grain parboiled rice (26,638 tons or 4.25 percent) during the said period.
The largest market for Cambodian rice continues to be the European Union, which imported almost 270,000 tons of the product, equivalent to 42.98 percent of the Kingdom's total exports.
By individual country, the largest buyer of Cambodian rice was China, buying 170,000 tons of the product.
