Cambodia has reiterated its stand to support the candidacy of Timor-Leste as a member of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The commitment was made by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn in a meeting with his counterpart from the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste H.E. Dionisio da Costa Babo Soares here in Phnom Penh yesterday.
According to Mr. Ket Sophann, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in the meeting, H.E. Prak Sokhonn recalled the visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen in Timor-Leste, meeting with the country's high profile leaders including with H.E. Dionisio da Costa Babo Soares.
The Cambodian top diplomat, continued the spokesperson, informed the Timor-Leste's foreign minister of his planned visit to Timor-Leste to join the country's 20th anniversary and consultation referendum.
H.E. Dionisio da Costa Babo Soares profoundly thanked H.E. Prak Sokhonn for his warm hospitality and for the reiteration of Cambodia's support for Timor-Leste's candidacy as ASEAN member.
He also lauded the recent visit of Cambodian prime minister to Timor-Leste significantly contributing to further strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
In the meeting, both sides also discussed bilateral collaboration in all sectors, especially in diplomacy including exemption of official visa, trade and tourism promotion.
According to H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Cambodia is ready to provide 10 scholarships to students of Timor-Leste.
