Cambodia Thanks UNWTO for Support to its Measures in Combating COVID-19

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has expressed his profound thanks to H.E. Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) for his strong support to the Royal Government of Cambodia’s decision on granting a substitute Khmer New Year holiday from Aug. 17-21, 2020.

“By strictly following the safety and health guidelines recommended by World Health Organisation (WHO) during this holiday period, we didn’t see any new infected cases in the country, but saw some 1.5 million local and foreign tourists travelled to various tourism destinations throughout the country,” the Premier wrote in his letter dated Aug. 27.

“In addition, by putting people’s safety first, tourism destinations, tourism operators, and local authorities worked relentlessly around the clock in monitoring and guiding the implementation of additional protocols developed and laid out by the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Health and relevant stakeholders. To ensure safe and careful domestic travel reopening, Cambodia has been collaborating with national and international institutions in facilitating the restart of tourism as it is the key part to help boost the economy,” he underlined.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister also reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment as an active member of the UNWTO to promote tourism while keeping people’s safety as a priority during this hardship of COVID-19.
