Cambodia, Turkiye Highly Value Relations and Productive Cooperation

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and H.E. Ms. Ülkü Kocaefe, newly appointed Ambassador of Türkiye to Cambodia, have hightly valued the relations and productive cooperation between the two nations.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in their talks here this morning, H.E. Prak Sokhonn and H.E. Ms. Ülkü Kocaefe noted with satisfaction some positive factors that will open way to boost trade relations, which have not yet met the two countries' potentials, among them the Turkish government's decision to establish the Office of the Counsellor for Commercial Affairs at the Türkiye's Embassy in Phnom Penh, the entry into force of the Agreement on Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investment, the signing of Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation, as well as the 3rd Meeting of Joint Economic Commission to be held in Cambodia on Oct. 19-20, 2022.

The Deputy PM and the new Envoy also discussed ways to tap into new areas for cooperation and agreed to expedite the conclusion of some pending documents needed to further enhance the bilateral cooperation. He informed the ambassador of Cambodia's readiness to host the 3rd Political Consultations between both countries in the coming months.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn thanked the Turkish government for development assistance in the areas of rural development, education, health and the housing project conducted by TIKA in Saang district.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn touched on the challenges faced by Cambodia when assuming the ASEAN Chairmanship as well as hosting the recent 55th AMM and Related Meetings, expressing his satisfaction with the outcomes achieved beyond everyone's expectation, including the issuance of the Joint Communique.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn also briefed the Envoy of the complexity of Myanmar crisis and his endeavours in his capacity as Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair in pushing the implementation of the ASEAN's 5PC and helping Myanmar to return to normalcy.
