Cambodia Wins 7 Medals from 8th APT JSO in Thailand

Cambodia won seven bronze medals from the ASEAN Plus Three Junior Science Odyssey � APT JSO held in Pathum Thani, Thailand from June 9 to 15, announced the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in a press release issued yesterday.

The regional competition, the 8th of its kind, attracted 80 candidates from the ten ASEAN member countries, Korea, China, and Sweden.

Cambodia sent two coaches, two observers and five candidates to attend the event themed The Role of Youth in Communicating Science for Sustainable Development Goals in the Region.

According to the same source, Phan Sipheav and Kroch Thavorak, both male students from Preah Bat Suramarith High School in Kampong Chhnang province, got two medals each. In addition, Chov You Ie, a female student from Mongkul Borei High School in Banteay Meanchey province obtained two medals, while Hou Khemrakboth, a male student from Dey Dos High School in Kampong Cham province received a medal.

According to its online source, APT JSO is an annual science camp for students between 13 and 15 years old. It is designed to develop talents of young individuals and nurture them to become future scientists and innovators. It also aims to foster cross-cultural exchange, friendship and networking between participants of the ASEAN Plus Three member countries.

Last year, at the APT JSO in Malaysia, four out of six Cambodian students was awarded with nine medals - a gold, a silver and 7 bronze medals. Beside the medals, Cambodian students also won a special cup for being the friendliest in ASEAN and Miss of APT JSO 2018.
