Cambodian NA: AIPA To Attain More Achievements for Inclusive, Sustainable and Resilient Society in ASEAN

ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) will certainly gain more achievements in making each society in the ASEAN region inclusive, sustainable and resilient.

The remark was made by H.E. Ms. Khuon Sudary, Second Vice President of the National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia, in her keynote address at the AIPA Preparatory Meeting for the ASEAN-AIPA Leaders Interface at the 34th ASEAN Summit, held in Bangkok, Thailand, on June 21.

As we are all Members of Parliament representing the people of ASEAN, we have determined to build and develop all sectors to ensure benefits of fellow citizens through the enhancement of multilateral dialogue and concrete cooperation, said H.E. Ms. Khuon Sudary. AIPA has collaborated with government, private sector, civil society organisations, and local communities which enables us to learn more and well manage our limited resources to achieve the ASEAN Vision 2025.

The preparatory meeting was chaired by H.E. Chuan Leekpai, President of Thailand's NA and President of the 40th AIPA for 2018-2019.

The meeting agreed to include issues of women enhancement and empowerment and gender equity, as well as food security in the region, mainly in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, proposed by Cambodian NA; of drug and human trafficking suggested by Vietnamese NA; and of the tightening of regional cooperation in management and maintenance of cultural heritage raised by Thai NA, in the report to be read by H.E. Chuan Leekpai in the ASEAN-AIPA Leaders Interface.

High-level delegation of Cambodian NA led by H.E. Ms. Khuon Sudary has been now in Bangkok to attend the ASEAN-AIPA Leaders Interface, from June 20 to 23, at the invitation of H.E. Chuan Leekpai.
