Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia, this morning attended the Closing Ceremony of the 40th General Assembly of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), in Bangkok, Thailand.
As said in an NA's news release, the 40th General Assembly of AIPA was wrapped up with fruitful results.
Women Parliamentarians of AIPA (WAIPA) adopted two resolutions on promotion of gender equality and women's empowerment in ASEAN Community, and issues of gender gap in technological regulations.
Besides, the Committee on Economic Matters adopted four resolutions related to the topics of enhancement of economic development in ASEAN Community, improvement of ASEAN cooperation in the context of fourth industrial revolution, support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and so on.
While the Committee on Social Matters adopted six resolutions on bettering social services for elderly people, and strengthening safety in tourism sector, the Committee on Organisational Matters discussed 17 resolutions on strengthening activities of AIPA General Secretariat and partners.
The 40th General Assembly of AIPA also held discussions on topic of partnership to better law enforcement with observer countries such as Australia, Canada, China, Russia, and Republic of Korea.
On the occasion, H.E. Chuan Leekpai, President of Thailand's NA, expressed thanks to all AIPA member countries for sharing concepts on key topics toward adopting the said resolutions - an important mechanism to build solidarity and good cooperation in the ASEAN region, and also contribute to peace and sustainable development in the world.
Challenging issues in the region and the world such as climate change, extremism, and trade competition will be solved through strengthened cooperation between AIPA and ASEAN, underlined H.E. Chuan Leekpai, also Chairman of the 40th AIPA General Assembly.
Taking place from Aug. 25 to 30, 2019, the 40th AIPA General Assembly is held under the theme Advancing Parliamentary Partnership for Sustainable Community".
Established on Sept. 2, 1977, ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly was originally called the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organisation (AIPO), and the title was changed to AIPA in 2006.
AIPA serves as a legislative body of ASEAN member countries who take turn to host this annual event based on alphabetical order of the countries.
The 41st General Assembly of AIPA will take place in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province, Vietnam from Aug. 25 to 30, 2020.
