Cambodian PM Reacts Against Criticism about Academic Degree from West Point

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen of the Kingdom of Cambodia this morning reacted against criticism about the academic degree from West Point Military Academy held by his eldest son, Royal Cambodian Army Commander Lt. Gen. Hun Manet.

I appeal to the academician institutions in the U.S. to check the degree from West Point. Only the U.S. can certify the validity of the degree, he underlined in his speech at a graduation ceremony of BELTEI University held at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre, Phnom Penh.

This reaction came after self-imposed exile Sam Rainsy said Gen. Hun Manet's degree from West Point Military Academy is just for show.

Lt. Gen. Hun Manet called Mr. Sam Rainsy for a bet. If the latter can provide evidence to back up his claim, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet will resign from all his posts in the military. But, if he fails to prove his claim, Mr. Sam Rainsy must disappear from politics.

Gen. Hun Manet graduated from the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York in 1999. He was the first Cambodian alumnus.
