Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received here this afternoon courtesy call from visiting Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) and First Deputy Defence Minister.
According to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier, in the meeting Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang conveyed greetings from the Vietnamese leaders to Samdech Techo Hun Sen and briefed him of the purpose of his visit in Cambodia.
The Vietnamese senior officer told Samdech Techo Hun Sen about the good cooperation between the two nations in the military sector, especially about the organisation of the joint drill on disaster emergency response to be held in December.
The bilateral cooperation in maintaining security and order along the common border and the searching operation of Vietnamese soldiers' remains in Cambodia, as well as the armed personnel training were also raised by Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang on the occasion.
For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his satisfaction with the good relations between both countries' armies, which have brought about benefits for their people, particularly those living along the border.
The Prime Minister welcomed the upcoming joint drill on disaster emergency response, suggesting the inclusion of humanitarian activities, i.e. Cambodian soldiers can enter Vietnam to provide medical treatment to local people and vice-versa.
Samdech Techo Prime Minister also encouraged both sides to continue their existing cooperation and to provide favorable conditions for the people living at the common border.
Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang has been leading a high-ranking military delegation for an official visit in Cambodia from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2, at the invitation of Gen. Vong Pisen, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF).
The visit is aimed to review the collaboration between RCAF High Command and VPA General Staff and set forth new directions for their future cooperation.
