Cambodia has been involved with ASEM since 2004 at the 5th ASEM Summit in Vietnam. Since then, Cambodia has actively participated in ASEM's different activities Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, attended the 14th ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting (ASEM FMM14 ), held in Madrid, Spain on Dec. 16 afternoon.
Themed "Asia and Europe � Together for Effective Multilateralism, the ASEM FMM14 deliberated and explored ways to revitalise the multilateral system as well as to build sustainable connectivity for the benefits of the two continents, according to a news release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFA-IC).
On the occasion, H.E. Prak Sokhonn delivered his remarks focusing on gender equality and the role of women in peace and security, particularly in the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations (UNPKO).
On the same day, on the sidelines of the ASEM FMM14, H.E. Prak Sokhonn held separate talks with H.E. Ms. Margarita Robles, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, and H.E. Alexander Schallenberg, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria.
The talks touched on the bilateral, regional and international issues of common interests.
and hosted two events, including the 7th Face-to-Face Training under Asia-Europe Public Diplomacy Training Initiative and the 8th ASEM Sustainable Development Dialogue.
ASEM is a positive mechanism to promote Cambodia on the international arena and the Kingdom has benefitted a lot from this forum in terms of economy, development, human capacity building, trade, tourism, people-to-people exchange.
Cambodia is going to host the 13th ASEM Summit in 2020.
