Cambodia’s First Drop of Oil Kept at Win-Win Memorial

Cambodia's first drop of oil has been kept in the Techo Sen Guidance Museum at the Win-Win Memorial located in Sangkat Prek Tasek, Khan Chroy Changvar, Phnom Penh.

The glass containing Cambodia's first drop of oil was handed over this morning by H.E. Suy Sem, Minister of Mines and Energy to Deputy Prime Minister Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Minister of National Defence and Chairman of Win-Win Memorial Construction Commission.

This symbolic Cambodia’s first drop of oil is dubbed in Pali “Patham Telak Pinthu Kampuchea”. “Patham” means first, “Telak” = oil, “Pinthu” = drop, and “Kampuchea” = Cambodia.

Speaking on the occasion, Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh said the extraction of Cambodia’s first drop of oil on Dec. 29, 2020 is an important first step for the country to build national capacity and its oil, gas and energy industry.

Key benefits from the oil, gas and energy industry include national revenue, economic benefits derived from the diversification of oil industry foundation, and national capacity building in this sector, he underlined.

Cambodia's first drop of oil was extracted from the first A-0ID well of Cambodian Block A Platform on Dec. 29, 2020, coinciding with the 22nd anniversary of the end of war, bringing about national unity, territorial unity through the Win-Win policy.
