Chinese Embassy Extends Condolences to Building Collapse Victims

The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Cambodia this evening expressed his condolences over the building collapse incident, which occurred yesterday afternoon in Kep provincial city.

"The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia was shocked to learn about the collapse of a building in Kep city, resulting in the loss of lives and serious injuries. The Chinese Embassy would like to express their deepest sorrows and heartfelt condolences to the victims and wish the injured fast recovery," said the embassy in a message.

The embassy also contributed humanitarian financial assistance for the victims, which reflects the close friendship between China and Cambodia.

A six-floor building, whose construction has been completed at about 90 percent, collapsed on Jan. 3 afternoon, at around 4:30. The search and rescue operation under the direction of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen continues until now and as of this afternoon, at 15:30, the number of casualties rose to 26.

Some 30 people are believed to be in the building when it collapsed.
