Education Ministry Confident of This Year National Exam Scoring

Ministry of education is confident of its computerised scoring of this year's national high school examination.

Minister of Education Youth and Sport H.E. Hang Chuon Naron underscored the confidence during a press interview here at Preah Sisowath High School here in Phnom Penh yesterday before the start of the exam.

Technical team of the ministry has reserved two back-up computer centres, well tested, in case there is an error of the scoring at the designated computer centres, said the minister.

The risk mitigation measure was put in place following last year error of the scoring of the national exam leading to some disappointments.

According to the ministry of education, 117,024 candidates � about 51 percent are female � have registered for the August 19-20, 2019 high school exam; and of the number, 44,683 (56 percent female) are science candidates and 72,341 (48 percent female) are orienting at social science.

The exam is taking place at 202 proposed exam centres of 4,725 exam rooms across Cambodia.

Reportedly, about 1.3 percent or 1,619 candidates (38 percent are female) did not turn up for the first day of the exam yesterday.

National high school exam in 2018 was resulted with 76,034 successful candidates or about 67 percent � 408 of them achieved grade-A, 2,222 grade-B, 6,041 grade-C, 15,180 grade-D, and 52,183 grade-E.

With the improved education system as a priority of the Royal Government of Cambodia along with thorough examination and scoring process, the education minister was also positive that the number of successful candidates for this year will be high.
