The expansion of runway in Sihanoukville International Airport has been scheduled to complete before the end of 2022 in order to handle the long haul aircrafts of world leaders who will attend the ASEAN Summit hosted by Preah Sihanouk province.
The information was shared in a meeting held here on May 6 between H.E. Mao Havanall, Minister in charge of State Secretariat of Civil Aviation and the delegation of Vinci Group and Cambodia Airports led by CEO of Cambodia Airports Mr. Eric Delobel.
In the meeting, H.E. Mao Havanall urged Cambodia Airports to complete the runway of 3,300 metres in Sihanoukville International Airport before 2022 so that it can handle long haul aircrafts such as Boeing 777.
H.E. Sin Chansereyvutha, Spokesperson at the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, shared that currently the runway expansion is undergoing its first stage, expanding from existing 2,500 to 2,800 metres.
As planned, the runway will be expanded to 3,300 metres in the second stage which will start in 2020 after the first step is completed, he said.
He continued that the expansion of the runway will allow enable more visitors to province.
