Experts Discuss Draft Early Childhood Care and Development Action Plan

Competent officials and experts have met to discuss the draft national action plan on early childhood care and development 2019-2023.

Taking place at Siem Reap province yesterday, the discussion meeting was presided over by Ministry of Education Youth and Sport Secretary of State H.E. Ms. Kim Sethany, Permanent Deputy Chair of the National Committee for Early Childhood Care and Development

H.E Kim Sethany expressed her appreciation of the progress made by of the National Committee for Early Childhood Care and Development, and encouraged the alignment of the national action plan with both the Sustainable Development Goals and national strategies and policies.

The gathering intends to generate technical inputs for the national action plan in order to promote comprehensive and effective services for small children, building firm human resource foundation for Cambodia.

According to UNICEF, Cambodia has made remarkable progress in child education with doubled number of children enrolled in preschool programmes.

There are however some remaining gaps, it added, as only around 43 percent of children aged 3 to 5 years are enrolled in early childhood education for academic year 2017-2018.

With this noted, Royal Government of Cambodia as well as Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and concerned institutions are working hard to further promote early childhood care and development.
