The National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2023 celebration is to show appreciation and recognition of media practitioners and the journalism industry who support the concept of sustainable well-being in line with Malaysia MADANI.
Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT) deputy secretary-general (Management and Development) Muhammad Razman Abu Samah, said the HAWANA celebration should be held as a show appreciation to media practitioners and the journalism industry around the world, especially in Malaysia.
"This is in view of the importance of the function and role of media practitioners in disseminating accurate and authentic information in real-time."
He said this after handing over the ministry’s contribution as a strategic partner in organising HAWANA 2023 to Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Broadcasting (TV and Radio) head D. Arul Rajoo and Strategic Planning head Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin at KPKT here today.
The HAWANA 2023 celebration, which is being held for the third time, will take place in Ipoh, Perak from May 27 to 29 with the theme Free Media, Pillar of Democracy to re-emphasise the issue of media freedom for journalists in carrying out their duties.
Various activities have been lined up for the event, including a media forum involving journalists from ASEAN member countries, a mini carnival, a treasure hunt and a bowling competition.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to grace the highlight of the celebration on May 28.
Muhammad Razman said media practitioners’ contribution is important in supporting the aspirations of KPKT in efforts to promote sustainable cities for healthy communities.
"Their role in delivering accurate and authentic information is vital to ensure that all government information and policies reach the people, especially in the rural areas," he said adding the ministry will always value journalists’ contribution.
