His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, has sent a message to congratulate the upcoming ceremony to officially launch the National Disability Strategic Plan for 2019-2023, the 21st National Day and 37th International Day of People with Disabilities to be held on Dec. 3.
In the royal message, His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni extended royal regards of Her Majesty the Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk to Cambodian people, especially those with disabilities and their families and her wishes for them to have good health and happiness.
His Majesty the King also expressed his optimism that the rollout of the strategic plan will benefit Cambodians with disabilities enormously.
The monarch spoke highly of the Royal Government of Cambodia's efforts in supporting and improving the Cambodian crippled people's living conditions.
He reflected that the past five-year's National Disability Strategic Plan (2014-2018) contributed significantly not only to rehabilitating the physical and mental health of Cambodian people with disabilities, but also to encouraging them to participate in social and political activities.
His Majesty the King took the opportunity to call on concerned authorities and compatriots to support and eliminate all forms of discrimination against disabled persons.
According to Cambodia economic and social work observation 2014, Cambodia's prevalence of disability was 4 percent of the total population or approximately 524,000 people.
