Kampot Province Expected to be Mine-Free by 2023

Kampot is another province committed to achieve the mine-free status next year through Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s Project for Mine Action (STP-MA) themed “Providing Safe Ground, Creating smiles”.

H.E. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) shared the optimism at a dissemination meeting on Cambodia mine action sector and STP-MA, held in Kampot provincial city this morning.

According to H.E. Senior Minister, 10,997 square kilometres of contaminated land in Kampot province will be cleared in 11 months, from August 2022 to June 2023.

Kampot is among the five provinces whose contaminated land of 31 square kilometres in total will be cleared by CMAC deminers, he pointed out.

Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has recently launched a national movement dubbed STP-MA to mobilise resources from donors across Cambodia and beyond to achieve mine-free Cambodia in 2025.
