More Tourists Expected to Travel during Pchum Ben Holiday

More domestic tourists are expected to travel to various tourism destinations across the country during the Pchum Ben holiday, from Sept. 16 to 18.

The number of tourists during this holiday is expected to be as high as that of the five-day Khmer New Year break compensation in August, H.E. Top Sopheak, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Tourism told AKP on Wednesday.

In the five-day holiday of Khmer New Year break compensation, there were some 1.45 million domestic tourists.

The tourism destinations thought to be the most attractive during this Pchum Ben holiday are the coastal areas, cultural sites in Siem Reap province, and ecotourism areas in the country’s northeastern part, H.E. Top Sopheak said.

Full peace in the country and the Royal Government’s effective measures against the COVID-19 spread are the key factors to boost domestic tourist movements, the spokesperson underlined.

With expectation of more tourists to travel in the holiday, the Royal Government always reminds people of the preventive measures against the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Ministry of Tourism has instructed relevant authorities and local officials to work closely with the private sector including hotels, restaurants, and resorts to implement the health preventive measures of the Ministry of Health and the Safety Tourism measures at pagodas and tourism resorts,” said H.E. Top Sopheak.

As of this morning, the total number of confirmed cases in the Kingdom was recorded at 275, of them 274 or 99.64 percent have recovered.

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, always calls on his compatriots to protect themselves, their families and their communities from COVID-19 by washing their hands frequently with soap or alcohol-based or gel-based sanitizers, wearing facemasks where necessary, especially at pagodas during the Kan Ben and Pchum Ben Festival.
