National League of POW/MIA Families Thanks Cambodia for Good Cooperation and Partnership

Ms. Ann Mills-Griffiths, Chairman of the Board and CEO of the National League of POW/MIA Families has recently sent a letter to Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, expressing her gratitude to the Kingdom for its cooperation and partnership on the POW/MIA accounting mission.

Dear Mr. Prime Minister,

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude that Ambassador Chum Sounry joined us for our 50th Anniversary Annual Meeting, June 19-22, 2019 in Arlington, Virginia. Ambassador Sounry addresses the entire audience on the afternoon of Thursday, June 20th, and presented to the families, veterans and a wide variety of US officials your country's impressions of the POWIMIA accounting mission. Ambassador Sounry was joined by his fellow Ambassadors from Laos and Vietnam, Ambassadors Khamphan Anlavan and Ha Kim Ngoc.

Ambassador Sounry delivered knowledgeable remarks that exemplified the reality of our longstanding cooperation, namely that Cambodia has long been recognised as the gold standard for cooperation and partnership on the POW1MIA accounting mission. His remarks were very well received by the families, and he and his colleagues were rightly rewarded with thunderous applause and a standing ovation.

Following the US brokered peace agreements in Cambodia, you likely recall that I was with Assistant Secretary for Asia and Pacific Affairs Dick Solomon when he led the first post-settlement delegation to Phnom Penh in 1992. Of course, I had been working directly with you long before he assumed that office, so our history on the accounting mission is long.

We are deeply grateful that you long ago named highly respected senior Cambodian officials to lead Cambodia's POW/MIA Committee and that recent changes within your government did not impact the position of now retired General Pol Saroeun as Chairman. We have worked successively and productively with him, as we have with Sieng Lapresse, Lt. General Soyath and all members of the Cambodia team.

Finally, I look forward to working closely with Ambassador Sounry as he continues to flourish in his well-deserved assignment here in Washington.

Sincerely and best wishes,
