NCDM: Flash Floods Affect Over 30,000 Families

AKP Phnom Penh, October 14, 2020 –​ ​Senior Minister H.E. Kun Kim, First Vice President of the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) has affirmed that the ongoing flash floods have affected more than 30,000 families, of them over 2,000 have been evacuated to safety grounds.

More than 30,000 houses have been inundated, of which 30 have been destroyed, he continued, indicating that some 120,000 hectares of crops, including nearly 80,000 hectares of rice fields and more than 40,000 hectares of subsidiary crops, roads and bridges have been damaged.

“The ongoing flash floods have so far claimed 10 human lives and injured two others,” H.E. Kun Kim added.

On Oct. 13, 2020, the senior minister continued his mission to the northwestern provinces such as Banteay Meanchey, Pursat and Battambang – the most-hit by flash floods – to check the flood situation and rescue people.

H.E. Kun Kim, on behalf of Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, thanked local authorities and armed forces for their hard work in rescuing people on time and asked them to continue the work with high attention.

The senior minister also called on charitable people to donate foodstuff and other necessities to address the need of the affected people.

As of the morning of Oct. 13, flash floods have been hitting 19 provinces and capital city across the country.
