On the second of Khmer New Year break compensation (Aug. 18), some 277,078 people toured the country, and the cultural tourism site – Siem Reap province – and the coastal Kampot province remained the most visited destinations.
Figures from the Ministry of Tourism show that Siem Reap province, home to the famous Angkor temples received 44,364 visitors while Kampot province welcomed 39,983 tourists.
Of the total number, 2,770 were foreign tourists, pointed out the ministry's report.
The Royal Government of Cambodia s allowed a five-day holiday, from Aug. 17 to 21 to replace the Khmer New Year holiday in mid-April, postponed in order to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the first day holiday, 233,329 people travelled to different tourist attractions across the country, and Kampot and Siem Reap provinces attracted the highest number of tourists.
