H.E. Chhieng Yanara, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, Secretary General of the Cambodian Rehabilitation and Development Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CRDB/CDC) held here this morning a courtesy meeting with Mr. Markus Buerli, new Director of Cooperation and Development Counselor of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Cambodia.
According to a CDC’s press release, the main purpose of this meeting was to discuss the progress of bilateral development cooperation between Cambodia and Switzerland as well as to exchange view and experience so as to further strengthen future bilateral cooperation and partnership.
H.E. Chhieng Yanara warmly welcomed and congratulated Mr. Markus Buerli for being appointed as a new Director of Cooperation and Development Counselor of SDC to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
H.E. Minister emphasised that the Swiss Development Cooperation Strategy for Cambodia is well aligned with priorities of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC), which mainly focuses on three key areas including 1) Skills development and employment, 2) Agriculture and food security, and 3) Governance and citizen participation and health.
On behalf of the RGC, H.E. Minister expressed sincere thanks to the Swiss Government and its citizens that have been and keep contributing to the sustainable development of Cambodia. In the meantime, H.E. Minister highly valued the contribution of Switzerland in response to the outbreak of Covid-19, particularly in Cambodia through providing the support to local people, vulnerabilities, and migrant workers, in few provinces, returning from neighbouring countries and the short-term financial support via Cash for Work measures.
Mr. Markus Buerli expressed his great pleasure to be working as the Director of SDC to Cambodia, and highly valued the RGC’s efforts and the progress made towards the sustainable development of Cambodia.
Mr. Markus also highly valued and appreciated CDC for significant achievements in implementing development effectiveness and global partnership commitment, and the well cooperation and partnership with Switzerland via SDC in Cambodia.
Furthermore, the new SDC director briefly indicated the progress made in executing the Swiss Development Cooperation Strategy for Cambodia in Mekong Region Framework 2018-2021 which covered Cambodia and Lao PDR, and the engagement of Switzerland in implementing the European Development Cooperation Strategy for Cambodia 2014-2019 as well as in the next phase.
In addition, Mr. Markus informed H.E. Minister about the preparation for a new phase of Swiss Development Cooperation Strategy for Cambodia 2022-2024 that is expected to discuss and gather inputs from relevant stakeholders next year.
In response, H.E. Chhieng Yanara firmly confirmed that CDC is ready to cooperate and lead coordination in this task among the RGC’s ministries/agencies.
Both sides strongly believed that the bilateral relations and partnership in development cooperation will be further strengthened and expanded in the future.
