The road traffic situation in Cambodia in May 2020 is better that that of May 2019, underlined the National Road Safety Committee (NRSC) in a press release on the outcome of traffic law reinforcement issued yesterday.
According to the same source, during the first month of traffic law reinforcement, or from May 1 to 31, 2020, the number of road accidents dropped by 130 cases or 37 percent while that of the injured fell by 162 cases or 32 percent, and the mortality rate by 42 cases or 27 percent, compared to the same period in 2019.
If compared with April 2020, the figures also showed a decrease of 11 percent, 7 percent, and 11 percent, respectively.
The NRSC attributed this positive outcome to the participation of all drivers in implementing the traffic law and to their understanding, tolerance and good order while driving.
Despite the good result, the NRSC called on people to continue paying high attention while driving and well respecting the traffic law as the fatality rate due to road accidents is still high, especially among motorcyclists.
Last month, the traffic police inspected and fined 44,765 vehicles, of which 73 percent or 32.726 were motorcycles and tricycles, and the rest were cars.
