Some 1.169.824 tourists have visited different tourism destinations throughout Cambodia during the first four days of the five-day Khmer New Year break compensation.
The figure was shared by the Ministry of Tourism in a report posted on its official Facebook page.
Only on the fourth day (Aug. 20), more than 334,000 tourists travelled across the country, up 2.86, 20.68 and 43.31 percent compared to the third, second, and first day, respectively, it pointed out.
Of them, the same source added, 331,836 were national tourists, and 2,555 were foreign visitors.
Siem Reap province, home to the famous Angkor temples, remained the most visited site, followed by the coastal provinces of Kep and Kampot, and the northwestern province of Battambang.
The Royal Government of Cambodia allowed a five-day holiday, from Aug. 17 to 21 to compensate the Khmer New Year holiday in mid-April, postponed in order to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
