PM: 61% of MSMEs in Cambodia Run by Women

In Cambodia, women establish and manage, approximately 61 percent of the total number of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The figure was shared by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen while presiding over the opening ceremony of the 2nd ASEAN Women Leaders’ Summit organised in person and via video conference by Cambodia this afternoon.

Some 98 percent of the total number of enterprises in Cambodia are MSMEs, contributing around 58 percent to the national economy, and creating around 73 percent of total jobs, the Premier said.

With this fact, he underlined, the Royal Government of Cambodia has identified and promoted women as the backbone of national socio-economic development, by increasing investment in gender equality and promoting the role of women in the development across sectors, and at all levels.

Within the ASEAN framework, the Cambodian Premier laid stress on the significant role played by women, especially in recovering and boosting sustainable, inclusive and resilient ASEAN economic growth.
