Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, called here this morning for the promotion of local production from small and medium enterprises (SMEs), stressing that Cambodia is rich in agricultural raw materials used to produce finished products.
Increasing production from local SMEs is also to reduce the import of finished products from abroad, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said in a special statement to his compatriots on the recent developments in the country.
The Royal Government considers the SMEs as the backbone of the country's economic growth, continued the Premier, pointing out that the Royal Government has been boosting the SMEs sector by establishing the state-owned SME bank, a new financial service for SMEs.
The SME bank is scheduled to be officially launched later this year.
Data from Ministry of Industry and Handicraft shows that Cambodia has in total 500,000 SMEs.
H.E. Cham Prasidh, Senior Minister and Minister of Industry and Handicraft urged the informal SMEs to register to benefit from the government's supporting programme.
