PM Instructs Border Committee Chairman to Meet Local People on Border Issues

Head of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has ordered H.E Var Kimhong, Senior Minister in charge of Cambodia Border Affairs Committee (CBAC) to explain to local people about border issues.

H.E. Chhim Phal Virun, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Head of the Secretariat of the Supreme Consultation and Recommendation Council said Samdech Techo Hun Sen raised the issue up in a review meeting with the council’s members here this morning.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister has instructed H.E. Senior Minister Var Kimhong to visit the areas where people had claimed to lose their land due to border demarcation work to find out whether they had really lost their land or they had been incited by some politicians, he added.

At the same time, he continued, Samdech Techo Hun Sen recommended Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Bin Chhin, Minister in charge of the Office of Council of Ministers to organise a workshop to explain to the public about border issues, H.E. Chhum Phal Phirun told reporters at a press conference after the meeting.

The Premier also told the meeting that clarification on border issues needs to be done because any distorted information on border issues can create chaos and lead to social unrest and conflicts with neighbouring nations.
