PM Urges for Continued Attention to Hygiene Despite Zero Active COVID-19 Case

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has urged his compatriots to continue protecting themselves from the COVID-19 pandemic even though the last patient has recovered.

“I would like to share with you the happy news from the Ministry of Health that in the second phase of the COVID-19 infection with 274 confirmed cases, last night, the 274th patient who is the last COVID-19 patient has been cured. This is the happiest news for Cambodia,” Samdech Techo Hun Sen wrote in a Facebook message this morning.

“Anyway, please continue to maintain good health and hygiene so that we are not infected with COVID-19. Often wash your hands with soap or gel-based or alcohol-based hand sanitizer and wear facemasks at crowed places such as pagodas, etc.,” he underlined.

The last or 274th patient is an 18-year-old Indonesian man arriving in Cambodia on July 30 from Indonesia via Malaysia. He has been allowed to be discharged from the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh after being tested negative twice consecutively.

It is the second time that Cambodian declared to be a COVID-19-free country. The first time was on May 15, 2020 when the last or the 122nd patient who was a 36-year-old Cambodian woman in Banteay Meanchey province was cured from the deadly disease.
