Protecting Lives – Utmost Purpose of Reinforced Traffic Law

The reinforced traffic measures mean to protect lives and improve travels, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng.

The deputy prime minister reaffirmed the point when chairing a recent meeting to define key roles and responsibilities of concerned officials for effective implementation of bettered traffic law starting today.

As part of the rollout of the traffic law reinforcement, nearly 4,000 police officers have been deployed at 568 checkpoints across Cambodia.

The newly introduced measures followed the remaining high rate of road accidents across Cambodia and primarily aim to protect people’s lives and property, and reduce injuries and disabilities.

In the first quarter of 2020, traffic accidents claimed 493 lives, and 81 of them in Phnom Penh – the busiest city of the Kingdom.
