Temporary Closure of Mosques, Suraus and Religious Halls Continues For another Week

The Minister Religious Affairs explained that the temporary closure of mosques, suraus and religious halls throughout the country continues for another week starting today.

Yang Berhormat said the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, MUIB held a meeting last Saturday to evaluate the development of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country to decide if the closure should continue.  The decision of the meeting was conveyed to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and His Majesty gave His Majesty’s consent to it.  Thus, by consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the MUIB announces that the temporary closure of mosques, suraus and religious halls in the country that ended on Monday, 6th of Sya’ban 1441 Hijrah corresponding to  30th March 2020 is extended for another week starting on Tuesday, 6th of Sya’ban 1441 Hijrah corresponding to 31st March 2020 until Monday 13th of Sya’ban 1441 Hijrah corresponding to 6th April 2020 because there is still the danger of infection as advised by the Ministry of Health and in line with the Fatwa or Ruling of the State Mufti Number 02/2020 on the obligation to avoid danger. Before the end of the clousre, the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, MUIB will again assess the development of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.  

It was also announced that the cleaning measure at all mosques, suraus and religious halls in the country by anti-virus disinfection has been completed.    Meanwhile, the measure to maintain mosque cleanliness will be implemented based on the advice of the Ministry of Health to enable the houses of worship to be used safely as usual after they are reopened.  However, the reopening and using of the mosques is subject to the COVID-19 situation and its development in the country.  Regarding religious activities held every year on the night of Nisfu Sya’ban or Middle of Sya’ban, this year the Nisfu Sya’aban falls on Wednesday 15th of Syaaban 1441 Hijrah corresponding to 8th April 2020, where based on the date, it is not included in the current temporary closure of mosques, but by the grace of Allah the matter will be announced later after the forthcoming evaluation on the COVID -19 development.   While, mosques, suraus and religious halls are closed, the Ministry of Religious Affairs with the cooperation of Radio Television Brunei will broadcast religious programmes on radio and television on Friday afternoon.  The programmes will be filled with Zikir and tazkirah that can be followed by the public.
