Three Cambodian Films Selected for Final Round in Japan

Nine students of the three winning groups will represent Cambodia at the final round of the Asian International Children's Film Festival 2019 to be held in Minami-Awaji City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan on Dec. 7, 2019.

The nine students from Preah Monivong High School, Tuol Tompoung High School, and American Intercon School will participate in the event under the JENESYS Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths 2019 programme, along with students from Japan, other ASEAN countries, China, Mongolia and the Republic of Korea, Taiwan and Timor-Leste.

The three winning films entitled Father, The Consequences, and Decisions were selected in the 11th Preliminary In-Country Contest in Cambodia held successfully on Sept. 16 at the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Centre (CJCC), Phnom Penh.

This preliminary contest was organised by the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and CJCC.

According to the embassy, the theme of the films this year is How do you think about causing others trouble. Is it okay if only you are good? Can you think about other people?. 69 films were submitted by students of 34 high schools in Cambodia, and 15 films were pre-selected and screened at the contest.

This Festival started in Japan in 2007, and since then, it has been organised every year. Cambodian students have been invited to this Festival since 2009.
